Trip to visit Melissa

So the last three days, Casey, Casey's dad, and I went up to Eureka, California to visit our friend Melissa who goes to Humboldt State University. It was a really long five hour drive up north from the part of the Bay Area where I'm from. First few hours was doable. Until the third hour, I started dowsing off in the back seat. Then we drove
past this really beautiful redwood forest. I'm sure that the photos won't look like it's nice, but as you drive through the forest, you feel the really peaceful, quiet, amazing atmosphere.

We arrived at Eureka around four in the afternoon. Casey's dad dropped us off at Melissa's house for me, Casey, and Melissa to hang out. The three of us just stayed in bed, watch tv, and talk for a long time catching up with things that happened to our friends and what has changed with our lives.

The next day, Melissa had to go to school because it's Wednesday (school day for her), Casey, Casey's dad, and I went around the town for an adventure :)

When first drove to this place called Hole in the Wall. They're sandwiches are apparently the best in town according to Yelp. Seriously, Yelp is the only thing I use when I go travel. I really like the interior of the store. It's a tiny, cute place; the moment you walk in, you are surrounded with snack racks on both side of you, and in front of you is where you're going to order your sandwich. I'd say their price is really fair, or I should say it's more than fair once you see the sandwiches: they are HUGE.

You see this picture? You see how tiny the hand is compare to the sandwich? I ate half of the sandwich for lunch and was too full for dinner. I ended up saving the other half for the next day's lunch. I'd say the quality is similar to but better than Subway, and it's bigger. So I'd definitely recommend anyone who's visiting Arcata/Eureka to give it a try. After we bought our sandwiches, we head to the Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse and ate our sandwiches there.

Casey's dad read the plate that explains what the lighthouse was and told Casey and I that this lighthouse is actually a duplicate of the one behind the hill (in the picture on the right side). So we decided to hike the hill and exercise a bit after we finished our sandwiches. The hill is really steep, but to be honest, the hill would not be as hard to climb if Casey and I weren't wearing flip flops. The view is really great because this hill is mostly surrounded by the ocean. It took us around 30 minutes to actually get to the top of the hill where we can see the lighthouse, but I'd say it was a disappointment because the actual lighthouse was so far away and was hidden behind the trees.

Right when we started to climb back down, Casey's dad suggested Geo-caching. So we stayed for about 20 minutes looking for this really well hidden container, that happened to be brown, branch-looking container, inside some bushes. Very talented hiding skill.

By the time we finished the hike, it was about two or three in the afternoon. We went back to Casey's dad's hotel to rest and nap... Around 4 or 5, Melissa texted us and said that she's out of school. So we went to pick up Melissa at her house and drove to downtown Arcata to tour around. We stopped at Scoops -- according to Yelp the number one ice cream around town.

DOESN'T THIS LOOK YUMMY? I love ice cream... I got their coffee ice cream and chocolate ice cream. They are really delicious. The flavors are really rich. Hmm I want to go back there now. Their interior is also nicely designed. Every thing looks really vintage, peaceful, and cute. I would go back if I can...

The rest of the day, we stayed at Melissa's house again, watching TV and talking. Then we decided to move to the state beach to sit there and talk. So, Melissa drove Casey and I to the beach, and the three of us there, we talked for hours and hours about things that has happened. Honestly, that was the best part of this trip -- to stay with friends and just bond like how we used to in high school.

-----------------------

The next day, Casey and I had to head back to Bay Area, so we left around 10 in the morning right after Melissa has gone off to school. The trip on the way back was about the same as when we drove up to Arcata, but with a sentimental, melancholic feeling...
